On 22 June 2026, members of the Peace Education Hub, Larisa Kasumagić Kafedžić and Lejla Mulalić, were delighted to welcome Dr John Maiden and Dr Katelin Teller from the Open University (UK) to the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo.

During the meeting, Dr Maiden and Dr Teller introduced the RETOPEA (Religious Toleration and Peace) initiative, originally funded through the Horizon 2020 programme. RETOPEA brings together an international community of researchers committed to engaging young people in creative learning about religious toleration, peace, and intercultural dialogue. Building on research into historical practices of religious coexistence and contemporary representations of religion, the project has developed a range of innovative educational resources, including clippings that encourage critical reflection on multicultural experiences and docutubes—short, vlog-style films designed to stimulate discussion and learning.

The Peace Education Hub members presented the Hub’s interdisciplinary approach to peace pedagogies, highlighting its ongoing teaching and research initiatives. The discussion revealed numerous shared interests and opened up promising possibilities for future collaboration.

Both the RETOPEA and Peace Education Hub teams greatly appreciated the opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, and reflect on innovative approaches to teaching for peace, tolerance, and intercultural understanding.
