The collaboration between the Peace Education Hub and Leiden Law School (University of Leiden) began in 2021, when members of the Center’s Coordination Team, Melisa Forić Plasto and Lejla Mulalić, took part in designing and teaching one module of an online course dealing with questions of justice and the rule of law in post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina (Using the rule of law to close dark chapters of history? The case of Bosnia and Herzegovina), focusing of education in postconflict Bosnia and Herzegovina. The course was designed and taught by Nadia Sonneveld, Associate Professor at the Van Vollenhoven Institute for Law, Governance, and Society, Leiden Law School. It was attended by students from both the Netherlands and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This successful collaboration continued with Nadia Sonneveld participating as a lecturer in the Second Summer School of Peace Pedagogy, which was held in a hybrid format in 2022, and with a visit by Lejla Mulalić, a member of the Peace Education Hub, to the Leiden Law School within the Erasmus+ academic exchange in 2023. Following this, Professor Sonneveld visited Bosnia and Herzegovina twice with her MA students on study trips, during which meetings and exchanges were organized with students from the Department of English at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo.
Nadia Sonneveld is also a member of the project team Picturing Scholasticide, realized as a multimodal exhibition involving professors and students from the Leiden Law School, along with Palestinian photographers and web designers. The aim of the exhibition, presented on June 6, 2025, in Leiden, is to highlight the terrifying consequences of the destruction of Palestinian educational institutions by Israel. The Peace Education Hub hereby shares a link with additional information about the exhibition and the authentic stories of Gaza residents who have dedicated their lives to education amidst the devastation of war.
