This workshop is an attempt to provide a vision for the teaching of Theatre of the Oppressed (ToO) in an online environment. Namely, working in educational theatre and drama (ETD) coincides with the universal competences of what is to be human and how to locate ourselves and each other in a society worth living in. Essentially ToO seeks to harness the techniques and potencies in the service of education. As educators, we should incorporate best-case scenarios in order to cultivate creativity, since that is what keeps society going. Drama is in its essence a role-taking activity that allows its participants to behave differently, to empathize and reconsider various points of view, aspects, contexts, social and interpersonal relationships. In particular, theatre of the oppressed will be analyzed as a true example of how the role of theatre remains an inspiring source to address these various aspects. It is of immense importance to emphasize its importance in order to creatively respond to the challenges of the Covid19 crisis. It may serve as an inspiration to educators who are not drama or theatre specialists, and may serve to introduce paradigms and merits of the Theatre of the Oppressed.

Ida Karahasanović-Avdibegović

Ida Karahasanović-Avdibegović is an English language teacher, drama and theatre pedagogue. She is currently studying for an MA in Applied Drama, at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, Serbia and is also a PhD candidate in Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo. Her research interests lie in the fields of education, aesthetic theatre and peace pedagogies, a combination which provides insight into issues of teacher training and arts education. Over the past ten years, she has been working in various high schools in Sarajevo where she started to develop drama education as an extra-curricular activity. She has also directed plays which have premiered in the Sartr and Pozorište Mladih theatres. In 2020, she started a non-governmental association ReACT where she facilitates workshops for students and youth leaders, mainly on drama and theatre in education, Forum Theatre and English language, highlighting the importance of theatre in educational and communal settings. She was a Fulbright Scholar in 2019/2020 at the Kent State University, Ohio, USA for Teaching Excellence and Media Literacy.
